Rengaraj Venkatesh, MD

After completing his residency program in Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai he joined as a medical officer in general ophthalmology department and later moved to the glaucoma department. At present he is the Chief Medical Officer of Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry. His area of interest is cataract microsurgery and glaucoma. He is actively involved in clinical activities, teaching, consultancy and research work of Aravind Eye Care System.

He has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals on Manual SICS and Visual experience during cataract surgery in the last six years.He is actively involved in research activities of Aravind Eye Care System and at present working on Adherence to Glaucoma Therapy and long term results of Canaloplasty. He has also been invited as guest speaker for many cataract and glaucoma meetings in India and the rest of developing world.

His video on “High-Volume, High-Quality, Cost-Effective Cataract Surgery for the Developing World: Sutureless ECCE” bagged the Best of Show Award in the AAO, 2004 at New Orleans. He has also been awarded the ASCRS Research Grant in the year 2006.
