Rainald Duerksen, MD

Dr. Rainald Duerksen was born in Asunción, Paraguay, on July 10, 1962. He graduated from the National University of Asunción in 1987 with a degree in Medicine as a Medical Doctor and Surgeon. He later specialized in Ophthalmology and graduated as an Ophthalmologist in 1991 from “Elias Santana” Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

For several years, Dr. Rainald worked as an ophthalmologist at the Baptist Hospital (“Centro Medico Bautista”) in Asunción Paraguay before founding Fundación Visión in October 1999 relocating to new premises on a location close to the Baptist Hospital, to pursue his vision in eliminating preventative blindness in Paraguay and the region. He built as the Executive Director and with dedicated personnel the foundation to be the largest eye care institution in Paraguay doing more than 50% of all cataract surgeries in the country.

Dr. Rainald is also a Consultant for the CBM – Latin American Region and the Latin American Regional President of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (“IAPB”). He is a frequent international conference speaker addressing medical and management topics.
