MSICS TRAINING

Vision Outreach International  offers a Manual Sutureless Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) course hosted by Dr. Diego Mejia and his staff in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Dr. Carlos Gomez and his staff in the Dominican Republic, and Dr. Bert Bowden and his staff in Guatemala.   These courses are primarily for Board Certified Ophthalmologist to learn or brush up on their MSICS technique. We believe there are several LEVELS OF TRAINING that need to be accomplished prior to trying to perform MSICS surgery on your own.

Our PRIMARY desire is to train and encourage medical professionals to grow in Christ-Likeness, to gain a heart for global missions, to be EXCELLENT in their medical eye care, and to become a mentor for others in these areas.

Our MSICS training is one of the most requested programs that we offer. These opportunities and courses are filled very quickly, and we normally maintain a waiting list for this training.  To secure your training reservation, FIRST, fill out an on-line MSICS TRAINING APPLICATION.  If all the dates are full, we will place you on a waiting list and notify you once a course comes available.  Once your application and the dates have been approved, then we will direct you to give the training course fee. Both the application and the training fee must be received before we can confirm your training reservation.

If you have specific questions or do not see an available opportunity below, please email [email protected] and give her your contact information, and ask her to put you on the waiting list. Once a course becomes available, she will notify you.

What Others are Saying...

"Other than learning MSICS in a very modern surgical suite by an excellent instructor who thought of every detail before we arrived, the highlight was getting to fellowship with the Mejia family at the evening meals. They were so generous and so accommodating. A true blessing to us in a foreign land.”

Dr. Matt McCauley - TX

Dr. Diego is an amazing teacher and very patient. I learned how to do MSICS, but also think I learned about doing better surgery in general. Diego and Patricia took great care of us. They were very warm and caring.

Dr. Lauren Baker - MN

I encountered other people who love Jesus Christ with their whole life and devote themselves to people in need. The patients in Guatemela received a clear gospel message and excellent medical care. Their appreciation was evident and rewarding. To God be the glory!

Dr. Stephen Fox - IA

Just prior to departing for Santo Domingo, I emailed Dr. Gomez to let him know we would arrive on time but also to find out where I would meet him as I would not likely have WiFi. His response, "Dont worry, I will be outside, I have your photo, relax". This set the tone for surgery also as he would say "relax, you got this". He has a good method of teaching MSICS and is a patient instructor and great surgeon.

Dr. Larry Meyer - WI
